Energy Association of Pennsylvania Recognizes PECO for Best-in-State Employee Safety; PECO Adds New Electrical Safety Web Site for Kids

PHILADELPHIA, May 20 /PRNewswire/ -- For the second consecutive year, the Energy Association of Pennsylvania has named PECO Energy as recipient of its annual safety achievement award. The award recognizes PECO for having the lowest worker injury incidence rate of any of the 12 electric and natural gas utilities in the state during 2004.

Ranking among the safest utilities in the nation, the company has achieved a continuous trend of fewer worker injuries since 1993 and was honored in 2001 and 2002 as the Energy Association of Pennsylvania's most improved Pennsylvania utility in the area of safety performance. With more than 4.2 million man hours worked last year, there were 39 recordable injuries, a reduction from 40 recordable injuries in 2003 and down from a staggering 302 recordable injuries in 1993.

"I am extremely proud of our employees for their continued safety improvement," said Denis O'Brien, president of PECO. "This award shows what our company can achieve when we set a goal and commit ourselves to reaching it. Safety is our top priority at PECO, and we continue to work each day to ensure the safety of our employees and our customers."

Now, PECO also offers safety education for kids with its new Louie the Lightning Bug Safety Ranger program. Visit the safety section of PECO Web site at http://www.peco.com/ to learn more.

PECO safety professionals also reach out to contractors, school and community groups, and municipal emergency personnel throughout the year to conduct safety education programs and provide important safety information, especially about working around electric and natural gas facilities.
