MetLife President and Chief Operating Officer C. Robert Henrikson Reelected Chair of Huebner Foundation

C. Robert (Rob) Henrikson, President and Chief OperatingOfficer (COO), MetLife, Inc., was recently elected to another term asChairman of the Board of Trustees, S. S. Huebner Foundation forInsurance Education, at the Wharton School, University ofPennsylvania. J. Barry Griswell, Chairman and CEO, PrincipalFinancial, was also elected to another term and the following newtrustees were elected for first terms: Ralph Arnold, COO, MonumentalLife; Tom Hardy, President and CEO, Unity Financial Life Insurance;David Hatton, CEO, ING Pension Trust, Asia, Ltd.; Bill Rabel, SVP LOMA(retired); and, Richard Williams, Co-CEO and COO, Primerica LifeInsurance Co. Trustees continuing on the board are David Nye,Professor of Insurance, University of Florida and Chairman, BankersInsurance Group, and Terrie Troxel, CEO-Emeritus, Institute forCPCU/Insurance Institute of America.

J. David Cummins, Executive Director, and Harry Loman, Professorof Risk and Insurance, expressed gratitude to the board for itsservice. "We are fortunate to have executives of this caliber guidingthe policies of the Huebner Foundation. For more than sixty years thefoundation has produced Ph.D.s with a major in Risk and Insurance,many of whom have been leaders in universities, research institutionsand professional education organizations. We believe that thefoundation will take great strides under the leadership of RobHenrikson and the rest of the board."

MetLife's Rob Henrikson, who did his undergraduate work at theUniversity of Pennsylvania and is a graduate of the Wharton School'sAdvanced Management Program, indicated his pleasure at continuing hisservice as chairman of the foundation trustees. "The HuebnerFoundation is the premier organization for promoting insuranceeducation in universities and colleges. I am truly honored to bereelected as chair of the foundation and I look forward to workingwith the other trustees to ensure that insurance and risk managementeducation keeps pace with the dramatic changes occurring in theinsurance industry."

The Wharton Business School was the first school to teachinsurance at the university level in 1904. That course was taught bythe Foundation's namesake, Solomon Huebner, considered the "father" ofinsurance education. Wharton continues to be the premier school foreducation in risk management and insurance and as such has asubstantial opportunity to make a favorable impact on the industry.

Board member Bill Rabel remarked, "The Huebner Foundation's majorfunction is to produce outstanding professors who influence the livesof tens of thousands of students. Upon graduation these studentsbecome consumers of insurance products and many work in the industry.The foundation has an excellent track record and we on the board willbe doing everything we can to extend and perhaps even expand on thatrecord of success into the future."

Insurance executives founded the Huebner Foundation in 1941 toaddress a growing need to train college and university professors toteach insurance to the many students interested in the field. Namedfor Solomon S. Huebner, a professor at the Wharton School from 1904 to1953, the Foundation is supported by contributions from insurancecompanies, foundations and alumni. This support enables the Foundationto accomplish its objectives by providing educational fellowshipsconsisting of the tuition and fees for study at the Wharton School anda $20,000 living stipend for a period of four years to highlyqualified doctoral students at the Wharton School of the University ofPennsylvania who are committed to a career in teaching insurance andrisk management.
