Iberdola Deploys IT Monitor; Preventive Monitoring Platform Fuels Indu
Business Editors/High-Tech Writers
SAN LEANDRO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 1, 2005--OSIsoft today announced that Iberdola Generacion S.A.U., Spain's second-largest electric utility, has deployed WiredCity's IT Monitor. Iberdola has already installed OSIsoft's Real-time Performance Management platform and is using WiredCity's IT Monitor to provide a link between process control and IT information, ensuring the reliability and quality of data being transmitted across power plants for accurate analysis. Using IT Monitor has enabled Iberdola to increase system uptime to 99.5 percent.
Serving 16 million customers in Spain, Mexico, and Central and South America, Iberdola opened its Center for Monitoring, Diagnosis and Simulation two years ago to monitor real-time performance data from its power plants.
"The very first day we installed IT Monitor it cut the workload in half," said Miguel Chavero, IT Manager for Iberdola's Center for Monitoring, Diagnosis and Simulation. "Gathering and monitoring data from different systems is a challenge, but now we can quickly and easily bring this information together in real-time to troubleshoot the system if needed."
Recognizing the need to further streamline operations, Iberdola is now working with WiredCity to implement its Industrial Data Center solution (IDC). The IDC creates a secure environment between the enterprise business network and process control network (PCN) to allow advanced technologies, applications and services to be run without compromise.
The IDC weaves a new level of technical sophistication through an industrial facility's network. Built from a selection of mature software and hardware solutions, it is a packaged solution that connects systems and data across an organization and ultimately enables an industrial facility to operate at a rate that is necessary to remain competitive.
The IDC uses data center concepts to enable standard IT threat management strategies, such as firewalls, encryption and patch management, to be applied to process control data without compromising the availability of the process control network. If a security threat is identified, IT Monitor triggers the IDC to disconnect from the process network and then restart with a default database so that data collection and monitoring can continue.
WiredCity's IDC leverages Cisco's Intelligent Information Network (IIN) for monitoring and managing manufacturing operations by using utilities such as NetFlow, QoS, and IPSLA, as well as Microsoft's .NET technology, to deliver an end-to-end solution that is important for all organizations.
"Working with OSIsoft's WiredCity group, we are not just facilitating the secure transfer of data, we are helping to build intelligence into the network," said Stuart Robinson, Cisco. "This streamlines network monitoring, increasing productivity and decreasing downtime."
"Delivering intelligent solutions for minimizing disruption and downtime of the network and critical applications is our priority," said Martin Otterson, CEO WiredCity. "IT Monitor and the IDC solution provides companies with a powerful tool that bridges the gap between process control networks and business systems for end-to-end, real-time performance management."
