WSJ: Production Glitches May Delay Apple IPhone8

(RTTNews) - Apple's (AAPL) much awaited upcoming premium iPhone 8 faces production glitches at the manufacturing level, which could lead to shipment delays, according to sources of The Wall Street Journal.

According to the report, the production glitches has set the timeline back by a month. This could lead to shipment delays beyond the the initial sale window and could force analysts to lower estimate for the holiday shopping quarter.

The iPhone 8 is expected to be unveiled at an Apple event scheduled for September 12 and is expected to ship from September 22.

The Wall Street Journal says that the OLED assembly as a major reason for the delays. Apple supplier Foxconn is ramping up development and working to hire new employees.

"Apple and its suppliers also ran into trouble manufacturing the OLED displays. The display modules are being produced in Vietnam by an affiliate of Samsung Electronics. Unlike the OLED display module in Samsung's own smartphones, in which the display and touch panel are integrated, iPhone's display module has the touch panel outside of the display, according to a person familiar with the technology," WSJ writes.
