Sara Lee Corporation Names Garry Berryman Chief Procurement Officer

    CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 29, 2005--Sara Lee Corporation announced today the appointment of Garry S. Berryman to the new position of chief procurement officer, effective March 30.
    In this role, Berryman, 52, will be responsible for the company's global procurement operations. He will report to L.M. (Theo) de Kool, executive vice president and chief financial and administrative officer.
    "We are extremely pleased to have a person with Garry's experience join us in this strategically important position," said de Kool. "As we move forward with the implementation of Sara Lee's transformation plan, Garry's strong procurement expertise will play a critical role in leveraging our scale and establishing best practices throughout our global operations."
    Berryman joins Sara Lee from Applied Materials, Inc., where he served as vice president of global materials and supply chain management. Prior to that, he was at Harley-Davidson for eight years as vice president of materials management and product cost. Berryman has more than 20 years of experience that includes positions of increasing responsibility at Honda of America Manufacturing, Inc. and Deere & Company.
    Berryman received his bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Northern Iowa and is a certified public accountant.
