Robert Hughes Appointed Financial Officer for CIGNA HealthCare

CIGNA today announced the appointment of Robert Hughes to the position of financial officer for CIGNA HealthCare.

Hughes, who has been with CIGNA for more than 20 years, will assume financial leadership responsibilities for all aspects of the health care business.

"Bob's mix of financial and health care knowledge makes him uniquely experienced to fill the lead financial role for our largest business,” said Mike Bell, chief financial officer for CIGNA. "I know Bob's operational talents will be of tremendous value as we strengthen our competitive position.”

Prior to his current role, Hughes spent eight years with CIGNA International. He served as senior vice president and chief financial officer, where he had executive responsibility for the financial strategy and management of CIGNA's international operations. In 2007, he became senior vice president and managing director of CIGNA International HealthCare Benefits, where he had executive management responsibility for CIGNA International's health care businesses around the world.

Hughes began his career in CIGNA's corporate financial area where he held increasingly responsible positions throughout CIGNA's financial operations including, vice president and chief financial officer of CIGNA Health Services and CIGNA Corporation's general auditor.

Prior to joining CIGNA in 1985, Hughes was a senior auditor at Arthur Andersen & Co. He received a bachelor's degree from Villanova University in 1981 and is a Certified Public Accountant.
