Latino Sports' Best and Brightest Shine at 4th Annual Premios Fox Sports Presented by DHL
Delivering on its mission to bring Latino sports fans closer to their favorite athletes and teams, Fox Pan American Sports (FPAS) today hosted its 4th Annual Premios Fox Sports presented by DHL, the only awards program of its kind to recognize the contributions and accomplishments of Latino athletes and personalities from the world of sports. Winners in three categories were voted on exclusively by fans via text messaging, while 19 additional awards were voted on by an expert panel of judges and crowned during the official Premios Fox Sports awards ceremony at the Jackie Gleason Theater of Performing Arts in Miami Beach, Florida. "Premios Fox Sports once again has proven to be one of the top Latino events of the year,” said Jim Ganley, COO for Fox Pan American Sports. "Thanks to the wonderful support of our sponsors, advertisers, partners and our friends from throughout the Fox family, this year’s awards show was our biggest to date. Fox Pan American Sports congratulates this year’s distinguished honorees and sends a special thank you to the many athletes, entertainers and personalities that helped make the 4th Annual Premios Fox Sports an overwhelming success.” Airing on December 17 in the United States on Fox Sports en Español and throughout the Spanish-speaking Americas on Fox Sports Latin America, the 2006 edition of Premios Fox Sports brought together some sports and mainstream celebrities to honor the year’s greatest achievements across a variety of sports. Presented by title sponsor DHL for the second year-in-a-row, the 4th Annual Premios Fox Sports was once again hosted by Mexican film and television personality and star of Univision’s blockbuster novela "La Fea Más Bella,” Jaime Camil, alongside Candela Ferro, one of the leading ladies of Spanish-language television and current host of Telemundo’s primetime show "Decisiones.” The evening’s biggest winner was international soccer superstar Rafael Márquez who took home both "Outstanding Latin American Player in Europe” and "Athlete of the Year” honors. Márquez, considered the most successful Mexican soccer player in Europe since Hugo Sánchez and one of Barcelona’s standouts, played a key role in Barca’s UEFA Champions League and Spanish League championship wins. He also represented his native Mexico in this year’s FIFA World Cup. "Like any winning athlete, DHL values and appreciates what we call ‘Entrega Total’ (giving it your all™), which is crucial to becoming a part of the winners circle. The sponsorship of an event such as Premios Fox Sports not only enables the DHL brand to be showcased on primetime timeslots, but most importantly serves as the ideal platform to establish the human link between the shared values of speed, agility, reliability and determination that are central to athletes, sports enthusiasts and DHL,” said Samuel Cuñado, head of marcom and marketing intelligence for DHL Express International Americas.
