Eric J. Foss Elected Chief Operating Officer of the Pepsi Bottling Group; Gary K. Wandschneider Named Executive Vice President, Worldwide Operations

The Pepsi Bottling Group (NYSE: PBG) today announcedthat its Board of Directors has elected Eric J. Foss Chief OperatingOfficer, effective immediately. In this new role, Mr. Foss, 47, willoversee PBG's U.S. and Canadian businesses, worldwide manufacturingoperations, corporate strategy and worldwide information technology.Most recently, he served as President of PBG North America.

"Eric Foss has been an outstanding leader of our North Americanoperations," said John T. Cahill, Chairman and Chief Executive Officerof PBG. "His seasoned leadership, cultivated over more than twodecades in the Pepsi system, has helped PBG deliver solid results.Eric has led major initiatives in our U.S. and Canadian businesses,greatly improving our marketplace execution and selling capability,resulting in improved market share. He also is the chief architect ofPBG's highly successful revenue management strategy, which hasresulted in consistent gains quarter after quarter. I am very pleasedthat Eric is assuming a much broader role in the Company and lookforward to his valuable contributions."

PBG's Board also expanded the role of Gary K. Wandschneider andnamed him Executive Vice President, Worldwide Operations. In this newassignment, Mr. Wandschneider, 53, will retain direct responsibilityfor the Company's global manufacturing and logistics operations andits foodservice equipment management, and add PBG's customer servicework to his portfolio.

In making this announcement, Mr. Cahill said, "Gary has been a keyplayer on our leadership team since the formation of PBG as anindependent company. With more than 20 years in the Pepsi system, hehas been the driving force behind significant improvements andadvancements in PBG's manufacturing capabilities and infrastructure.Gary's expertise extends beyond the operations and supply logistics ofour business, which he continually demonstrates, most recently in hispursuit of integrated customer service solutions for our business."

Mr. Foss joined Pepsi-Cola Company in 1982 in sales and held avariety of increasingly responsible field and headquarters-basedsales, marketing and general management positions. In 1990, Mr. Fosswas named Vice President, Retail Strategy for Pepsi-Cola North America(PCNA). From 1994 to 1996, he served as General Manager of PCNA'sGreat West Business Unit. In 1996, he was named General Manager ofPepsi-Cola's Central Europe business. He returned to the U.S. inFebruary 1999, when he joined PBG as Senior Vice President, U.S. Salesand Field Marketing. A year later, he was appointed Executive VicePresident and General Manager of PBG North America and, the followingyear, was named to his most recent position.

Mr. Foss serves on the Board of Directors of United DominionRealty Trust, Inc. He holds a bachelor of science degree in marketingfrom Ball State University.

Mr. Wandschneider joined Pepsi-Cola North America in 1982 as aProduction Manager. He worked in a variety of manufacturing andoperations positions of increasing responsibility until 1990, when hewas named Vice President of Operations. In 1992, Mr. Wandschneider wasappointed General Manager for the Texoma Business Unit. He served asVice President of Manufacturing and Logistics from 1994 to 1997, atwhich time he was appointed Senior Vice President of Operations.

Mr. Wandschneider earned a bachelor of science degree in economicsfrom the University of Wisconsin.
