Delphi Launches TFOCA-4 Fiber Optic Connector for Harsh-Environment De

IRVINE, Calif., Feb. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Delphi Connection Systems is bringing to market another innovative fiber optic solution for military applications, launching TFOCA-4, a state-of-the-art design that reaffirms its leadership position in supplying groundbreaking solutions for defense applications.

A widely recognized leader in the design of harsh environment interconnect products, Delphi Connection Systems, a business segment of Delphi Corporation , is offering to military and electronics suppliers a hermaphroditic connector family that eclipses performance features of today's four-channel TFOCA connectors with various ease-of-assembly enhancements.

Delphi Connection Systems' TFOCA-4 (4-channel Tactical Fiber Optic Cable Assembly) connector joins an already extensive line-up of hermaphroditic fiber optic connectors that offer high levels of performance and durability in extreme conditions.

Engineered primarily for military tactical deployments, the TFOCA-4 connector series features an innovative internal subassembly design created by Delphi, one that offers several advantages over the contemporary "clamshell" design in today's TFOCA interconnects.

Mike Reagan, business line manager for Delphi Connection Systems' military, aerospace and commercial business unit, noted that among its most prominent advantages are the fewer number of assembly steps, reduced assembly complexity, reduced number of subcomponents, and quick access to termini, all due to an innovative subassembly design.

Other Delphi design features of the TFOCA-4 include an innovative one- piece terminus insertion/removal tool, ergonomically designed for ease of use. An additional tool provides a precise and controlled means by which to extract the terminus system. "This feature provides a safe and welcome alternative to pulling on the optical fibers to remove the terminus system, which can easily result in fiber breakage," Reagan said.
