CORRECTING and REPLACING PharmaCare Announces Agreement with SureScripts(R)
Third graph, first sentence should read: ...explained Greg Weishar, PharmaCare’s President and CEO. (sted: explained Greg Weishar, PharmaCare’s CEO,) The corrected release reads: PHARMACARE ANNOUNCES AGREEMENT WITH SURESCRIPTS® Physicians Can Access Information on Patient Formulary, Eligibility and Medication History in Real-Time, During Patient Visits PharmaCare today announced an agreement with SureScripts®, the nation’s largest network provider of electronic prescribing services. It will allow physicians using SureScripts certified technology to access information regarding a patient’s drug formulary and eligibility – in real time, during the patient’s office visit. Putting formulary and eligibility information at a physician’s fingertips eliminates many of the questions that often require pharmacists and prescription benefit managers (PBMs) to place multiple phone calls to a physician’s office. SureScripts' unique ability to connect to medication history data from the nation's community pharmacies and present that data to physicians will also be enhanced by the addition of medication history data from PharmaCare. This will provide physicians with a more complete, timely and clinically sound view of a patient’s medication history. Under a separate agreement, PharmaCare’s mail service and specialty pharmacies will also have the ability to receive electronic prescriptions from physicians using a SureScripts Certified Solution™. "Our agreement with SureScripts is part of our commitment to patient safety and customer service,” explained Greg Weishar, PharmaCare’s President and CEO. "SureScripts' innovative use of technology provides a critical checks and balance component to the prescribing process and will help PharmaCare increase the safety, efficiency and cost-effectiveness of our benefit management services.” With today’s announcement, PharmaCare takes a major step toward complying with the Medicare Modernization Act (MMA). The MMA requires Prescription Drug Plans to provide a patient’s medication history – as well as information related to that patient’s drug plan formulary and eligibility – to that patient’s physician, at the point of care. Following the completion of the SureScripts certification process, PharmaCare will be able to transmit this critical information to a patient’s physician over the SureScripts Electronic Prescribing Network™. The SureScripts medication history service uses an industry standard format to provide a patient’s physician with a single view of that patient’s medication history across all prescribers. "The nation’s pharmacies are leading the country toward a more interoperable system of healthcare,” said Kevin Hutchinson, president and CEO of SureScripts. Today’s announcement with PharmaCare is a prime example of how community pharmacy is actively forming new relationships – with prescription benefit managers as well as payers and health systems – that open doors and allow for the sharing of critical information that will cut costs, save lives and dramatically improve healthcare in the United States.” About PharmaCare PharmaCare is a wholly-owned subsidiary of CVS Corporation (NYSE:CVS).
