CN presents Safe Handling Awards to shippers
News Editors
MONTREAL--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 4, 2005--CN today announced the winners of its Safe Handling Awards for 2004. These awards are among the most coveted and respected in the industry. In all, 86 companies - 34 in Canada, 51 in the United States, and for the first time one in Europe - received these awards.
Since 1992, Safe Handling Awards have been presented each year to CN customers that load 100 or more cars with dangerous goods annually and meet demanding requirements for safe handling and shipment of regulated products. The awards are presented to companies that meet established criteria, according to the total number of shipments of dangerous goods for all facilities.
"CN has strict standards for handling the dangerous goods entrusted to us by our customers," said Jerry Boland, vice-president, Sales - Industrial Products. "Our customers and our employees work together to meet the day-to-day challenges of maintaining a safe operation. The CN Safe Handling Awards reward customers for thoroughness and care in handling dangerous goods. They work hard to make safety their priority, which is a goal we share."
The Safe Handling Awards complement a series of initiatives intended to make CN one of the safest railroads in North America.
"The Safe Handling Awards are an integral part of the Responsible Care(R) Program-an ongoing performance improvement initiative in which CN is a very active partner, both in Canada and the US," explained John Dalzell, vice-president, Risk Management. "Responsible Care(R) represents a long-term commitment by CN to consistently improve the safety of its operations. CN applies Responsible Care(R) principles to all its activities while protecting the environment for the communities it serves."
Railroads have a solid reputation for safely transporting regulated goods. At CN, the corporate focus is on strict application of safety rules, ensuring equipment is safe, and operating trains safely.
