Yahoo To Reportedly Admit Massive Data Breach

(RTTNews) - Yahoo is planning to confirm a massive data breach, probably involving several hundred million user accounts, Recode.net reported. The breached data might include user names, encrypted passwords, e-mail addresses, birth dates, etc.

According to an earlier report published in "Motherboard," a notorious cyber-criminal called "Peace" was behind the attack. The hacker was planning to sell the credentials of around 200 million Yahoo users on the dark web for just over $1800. The data are probably from 2012.

The Sunnyvale, California-based technology company has been investigating the breach, but did not issue a call to reset passwords, the report said.

All this comes at a time when Verizon is close to completing acquisition of Yahoo in a $4.83-billion deal.
