Walmart Punching Back At Amazon With Huge Discounts

(RTTNews) - Retail giant Walmart Monday announced it will be offering thousands of "awesome deals" on its website on July 15, as it takes on online retail giant Amazon's "Prime Day."

Earlier last week, Amazon started huge promotions for its shopping event "Prime Day" to celebrate its 20th birthday. The company said it will offer more deals on Wednesday than Black Friday. However, the event is only exclusive for Prime members, which costs annual fee of $99 a year.

Meanwhile, Walmart said its promotion deals this week are available to all customers, boosting the ongoing fight for online retail domination between the two giants. Amazon is the world's largest online retailer.

"We've heard some retailers are charging $100 to get access to a sale. But the idea of asking customers to pay extra in order to save money just doesn't add up for us," said Walmart, taking a dig at Amazon's prime subscription in their blog.

"We're kicking off some awesome deals this week that will be available for everybody with no hidden costs or admission fees, and they won't be available for just one day," Walmart said.

Walmart has also lowered the free shipping minimum order to $35 from $50 earlier.
