Verizon Raising Prices On Grandfathered Plans

(RTTNews) - Verizon Wireless has increased prices on its unlimited data plans for grandfathered consumers on month-to-month plans.

Customers who joined the company's unlimited plan before 2011 will now have to pay another $20 per month for access from their November 15 bills.

This excludes some customers who will not experience the price increase until their contracts expire. This increase also does not affect government or corporate accounts that have unlimited data.

Thus, a customer who pays $30 monthly for unlimited data will now pay $50. The average monthly bill can be stretched up to $100 when talk and text are added into the bucket.

According to Verizon, a majority of its customers are not on unlimited plans. Those customers who are on such plans can switch to the company's other plans that consider only actual data usage.

"We continuously evaluate the price of our plans and service, so we're increasing the price of unlimited data plans by $20 per line per month for customers no longer under contract with Verizon Wireless," Verizon said in a statement.

The company is also offering customers on its unlimited data plan an extra benefit of purchasing a new phone using Verizon's monthly device payment plan, instead of paying full price for the device upfront. This option is available to all unlimited data plan users when their current contract period ends.

Last month, Sprint raised the price of its unlimited plan by $10. Thus Sprint's unlimited talk, text and data comes at $70 a month from October 16.
