The Boston Globe to Offer ZIP-Level Home Delivery Distribution; New Model Allows Advertisers to More Effectively Target Consumers

    Publishing Writers/Business Editors

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 1, 2005--To allow advertisers to more effectively reach their customers, The Boston Globe announced today it would begin offering preprint advertisers the ability to target their customers by ZIP code. The new distribution model will be available effective April 3 for Sunday home delivery only.
This enhanced ZIP code-based distribution will enable preprint advertisers to reach an overall higher level of targeted distribution in 276 Greater Boston communities plus 15 outlying clusters. Previously, advertisers had only 96 preprint clusters to choose from.
"Advertisers have been asking us for a more refined method of distribution," said Peter Newton, vice president of advertising for the Globe. "The expansion of our operations in Boston allows us to better meet their needs through products and services that will now include ZIP code level distribution for our Sunday insert package."
Zip-level distribution can help Globe advertisers reduce costs while increasing overall efficiency. More targeted distribution will be available in virtually all of the Globe's home delivery markets, allowing advertisers to target their customers while streamlining their marketing efforts. The Boston Globe now has the capability to offer preprint advertisers unduplicated reach and 100% penetration at the ZIP code level for Sunday home delivery subscribers and the sub-ZIP code level for others.
