Sybase 365 and Telecom New Zealand International First to Launch Joint IPX Voice Service
Mobile Asia Congress — Sybase 365, a subsidiary of Sybase, Inc. (NYSE: SY), the global leader in mobile messaging and mobile commerce services, and Telecom New Zealand International (TNZI), a division of Telecom New Zealand, a full-service telecommunications provider delivering global voice, data and mobile services, today announced a new partnership for the availability of a joint IPX voice service offering.
"Our companies are working together to offer a high-quality voice service based on managed IP interconnects using Sybase 365’s best-of-breed MPLS-based GRX community, combined with TNZI’s next-generation softswitch technology, which already enables voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) interconnections in Asia Pacific, North America, Europe and Africa, and builds on TNZI's existing direct relationships with mobile operators for voice services,” said Anthony Briscoe, General Manager, International, TNZI. "We view this service as a precursor to providing mobile end users with access to consistent data and voice services regardless of where they want to call or roam internationally.”
"Together, Sybase 365 and TNZI are well positioned to offer IPX Voice services to mobile operators due to our technical expertise, industry leadership, and long-standing relationships with mobile operators throughout the region,” said Matthew Tonkin, Senior Director, Asia Pacific Sales, Sybase 365. "By combining our resources and expertise we can add real value developing and delivering an IPX voice service of guaranteed high quality which is also secure, scalable, and cost effective. We can offer a one-stop-shop that will enable our customers to maximize their operational efficiencies and cost savings as well as provide a higher quality of service to their subscribers.”
Sybase 365 is at the forefront of the evolution to IPX - the industry’s preferred solution for interconnecting various service providers over a global, private IP network with high technical performance and guaranteed end-to-end service levels. Working closely with the mobile operator community, both Sybase 365 and TNZI have participated in the GSM Association’s IPX pre-commercial trials.
Sybase 365's IPX service is poised to deliver services including global data roaming, MMS, Roaming Signaling, SMS, IMS services (presence, SIP-based messaging, P2P video) in addition to voice services, partnering with TNZI. As well as providing a guaranteed quality of service, IPX is a cost-effective, scalable and flexible alternative to setting up bilateral connections with individual mobile operators. Using an IPX, operators can access interconnect services on a competitive basis, with common technical specifications and a consistent commercial model.
Says Brian Partridge, Director, Service Delivery Architecture, Yankee Group, "As commoditization continues to impact ARPUs, there is a definite requirement for service providers of every tier and type to control cost. Moving to an IP technology to peer lowers cost significantly by removing the need for multilateral agreements between operators.”

Notes to Editors:
An IPX enables mobile operators to offer high-value 3G (and 4G) services such as voice, video streaming, and video sharing within specified services levels that can span multiple operators. The IPX ecosystem can also be viewed as a network; separate from the public Internet that enables managed QoS to support both next-generation broadcast and point-to-point services.
