Six Raytheon Employees Honored at 2008 Black Engineer of the Year Awards Conference
BALTIMORE, Feb. 19, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- Six Raytheon Company employees received national recognition during the 2008 Black Engineer of the Year Awards (BEYA) Conference in Baltimore, Feb. 14-18.
Since 1986, the BEYA Awards have recognized the ongoing achievements of black leaders in science, technology, engineering, and math-related careers and are presented in more than 25 categories.
William H. Swanson, Raytheon's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, attended the event and presented two of BEYA's top honors to Raytheon employees Daisy Jenkins and Valecia Maclin who competed with individuals from more than 150 companies, government agencies and the Armed Services for their specific honors.

Jenkins is vice president of Human Resources at Raytheon Missile Systems, Tucson, Ariz. She was awarded the BEYA Award for Diversity to honor her tremendous contributions in helping to foster a welcoming environment that values differences and new ideas among all Raytheon employees. She began her 26-year career at Raytheon as a clerk and, through work excellence, continued to be promoted through the ranks to serve as vice president in three Raytheon businesses. Jenkins has also served as Raytheon's corporate diversity director, where she built state-of-the-art human resources and diversity and inclusion programs.
Jenkins earned her law degree from the University of Arizona and became a licensed attorney. She has been the recipient of the University of Arizona College of Law Distinguished Alumnus Award; the National Eagle Leadership Institute Eagle Award and was recognized in Ebony Magazine's "Women at the Top in Corporate America" edition. Most recently, she was honored as the 2007 Woman of the Year by the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce in Tucson, Ariz.
Maclin is the director of Homeland Security and Secure Systems for Raytheon Intelligence and Information Systems and was awarded the BEYA Professional Achievement Award for distinguishing herself in several positions of critical importance. She currently oversees a portfolio of $100 million in annual sales and bookings and leads an employee base of more than 130 people responsible for delivering solutions to federal agencies charged with securing our nation's borders. In addition, she concurrently holds the position of Site Executive for the 220,000 square-foot Raytheon facility located in Landover, Md.
Maclin voluntarily serves as a Raytheon diversity "Game Changer," helping to facilitate training sessions and workshops across the company to foster an inclusive work environment, while also actively mentoring and developing Raytheon leaders. She regularly serves on panels aimed at fostering diversity and inspiring youth to focus on careers in engineering and computer science; and she is currently co-authoring a text on program management for cadets at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. She has been previously honored at the BEYA Awards Conference, having won the Special Recognition Award in 2002.
Four extraordinary performers and leaders were also named Modern Day Technology Leaders at a special BEYA Conference event where they were recognized for shaping the future of engineering with the contributions they have made to Raytheon and to industry. They are Rodney Bailey, Jomo Maple and Raydiance Wise of Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems, and Blessings Nzenwa of Raytheon Intelligence and Information Systems.
