Sen. Elizabeth Warren Strikes Back At Jamie Dimon
(RTTNews) - Pushing back against criticism from JPMorgan Chase (JPM) CEO Jamie Dimon, Senator Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., declared that she has a complete understanding of the global banking system and said it is why she is disliked by the big banks.
"The problem is not that I don't understand the global banking system," Warren said in an interview with the Huffington Post published online on Friday.
"The problem for these guys is that I fully understand the system and I understand how they make their money," she added. "And that's what they don't like about me."
Warren has been a frequent critic of the size and political influence of the world's largest banks and said it was mistake to refrain from breaking up the banks after the 2008 financial crisis.
The Massachusetts Senator's criticism led Dimon to question whether she "fully understands the global banking system," in remarks that some have condemned as sexist.
Warren told the Huffington Post that the big banks should not be upset at facing stringent regulations when they are being backed up with taxpayer money.
"If you want to go out and take risks, OK, go do it," Warren said. "But don't do it within the structure of a bank that gets backed up by the federal government."
In his remarks on Wednesday, Dimon acknowledged he agreed with some of Warren's concerns on the "risk side" and offered to meet with her any time.
