McDonald's Offering Lockers For Smartphones
(RTTNews) - McDonald's offers smartphone lockers so as to help customers spend quality time during family meals. The "Phone off. Fun On" campaign, introduced recently in a Singapore branch, aims to encourage diners to take a break from the virtual world to have real conversations over meals.
The fast food chain has installed the first 100 transparent mobile lockers in the McDonald's Marine Cove outlet.
A recent survey of around 300 parents conducted by McDonald's in Singapore found that 98% parents use their mobile device whenever they're with family. A majority of them admitted using smartphones during meals. Most parents also admitted that their kids use their phone during family time.
With the move, McDonald's hopes to get both parents and children off their devices and spend quality time as a family.
Linda Ming, director of McDonald's Singapore's brand communications and customer care, reportedly said, ""As a popular restaurant destination for families, we have observed that the use of mobile devices during meal times may sometimes get in the way of family bonding."
"This 'Phone Off, Fun On' initiative is part of our efforts to advocate family togetherness and encourage families to spend quality time together," she added.
The campaign primarily targets families, yet the service is free for anyone to use.
McDonald's said it was collecting feedback at the Marine Cove branch before any plans to expand the service to other outlets.
