McDonald's Embracing Future And Past, Kale And The Hamburger

(RTTNews) - McDonald's Corp is trying out a new breakfast bowl that includes kale at some of its Southern California outlets.

The move comes as the fast food giant grapples with falling sales and stiff competition, and has been focusing on menus to attract customers.

Apart from kale, the breakfast bowl includes turkey sausage and egg white, as well as spinach and bruschetta. The bowl costs about $4.

Another item being tried out by McDonald's is a Chorizo & Egg bowl, which includes a hash brown, cheddar jack cheese and pico de gallo, also priced about $4.

The adoption of kale is ironic as McDonald's recent ad made fun of kale and other ingredients like soy and Greek yogurt.

Kale has been gaining popularity over the years as health conscious consumers favor the leafy vegetable.

Faced with falling sales, McDonald's has simplified its menu, and recently announced an ambitious growth plan, including more focus on franchises.
