JUNO BEACH, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 19, 2005--Florida Power & Light Company announced today the appointment of Marlene Santos to serve as vice president of Customer Service/Sales & Marketing. Santos had previously served as director of customer care for the Florida-based utility.
Santos, a 23-year company veteran, has held a variety of management positions in the areas of finance, marketing and customer service. She succeeds William Hamilton, who after a 35-year career with FPL has decided to retire from the company.
"Ms. Santos is a proven and seasoned professional bringing a wealth of experience in the customer service arena," said Armando Olivera, president of FPL. "During her tenure as director of customer care, FPL became the first electric utility in the nation to have its customer care center operations certified as a center of excellence by the Center for Customer Driven Quality at Purdue University."
Santos will lead FPL's customer service/sales & marketing activities which are focused on customer satisfaction and continuous improvement. Activities under her direction include residential and business field services, marketing, product management, meter reading, payment processing, revenue recovery and customer care center operations.

Santos has served the local community of Miami-Dade in a variety of roles, including participation in the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce and Boy Scouts of America. She has served on the board of directors of the Alumni Association of the University of Miami, School of Business, and the Girl Scouts Council of Tropical Florida.
Santos holds a B.B.A. in finance with high honors from the University of Miami as well as a M.B.A. from the same institution.
