HP Announces New Initiative To Reduce Carbon Footprint - Quick Facts

(RTTNews) - HP (HPQ) announced it has signed a 12-year power purchase agreement for 112 megawatts of wind power with SunEdison, Inc. (SUNE). HP said the 112 MW of locally generated wind electricity is sufficient to power 100 percent of its Texas-based data center operations, and will avoid the emission of more than 340,000 tons of carbon dioxide annually.

The agreement will allow HP to reach its 2020 operational greenhouse gas emissions reduction goal by the end of fiscal 2015, five years ahead of schedule.

HP and SunEdison are among the founding members of the Business Renewables Center, a non-profit organization created to facilitate large-scale corporate purchases of renewable energy.

HP's commitment has enabled SunEdison to begin construction on the South Plains II wind farm in Texas, which when completed will generate 300 MW of power. The wind farm is on the Call Right Project List for TerraForm Power, a global owner and operator of clean energy power plants. TerraForm Power intends to acquire this asset once operational in 2016.
