GM Announces Three More Recalls
(RTTNews) - General Motors Corp (GM) continued its tryst with recalls that has continued to plague the automaker for the whole of last week and much of the year. On Saturday, the auto-giant capped its week of recalling with three more recalls of about 60,000 vehicles, beset with problems ranging from a steering column wiring to unintentional shutdown of the engine.
Only on Friday, GM announced two recalls totaling about 524,400 vehicles in North America. The stressed car maker has made 74 recalls this year, covering a near 30 million vehicles.
The latest recall include about 46,850 Pontiac G8s -- 2008 and 2009 models, as well as Chevrolet Caprices police vehicles between 2011 and 2013.
The issues show the car ignition keys to slip out of place accidentally by the driver's knee which may move the key away from the 'run' position and shut down the engine. GM indicated only one crash due to the problem but was not aware of any injuries or fatalities.
The other recalls on Saturday include about 10,000 Cadillac CTS-V - sold during 2004-2007 and Cadillac STS-V sedans during 2006-2007 in the U.S.
These vehicles are reportedly beset with problems related to the fuel pump module electrical terminal overheating in certain vehicles, with possible melting of the flange material. GM proposes to replace the fuel module and fuel tank jumper harness. However, GM said it was not aware of any related crashes, injuries or fatalities.
The problem related to steering column wiring has led to the recall of over 300 Chevrolet Sonics, which could render the airbags ineffective and restrict deployment in a crash. Identified as a loose electrical connection in the steering column, GM will rectify the deficiency at the recall. GM said it was unaware of accidents, injuries or fatalities linked to the problem.
The automaker on Friday announced two new recalls totaling about 524,400 vehicles in North America, which included 430,550 Cadillac SRX and Saab 9-4X SUVs, and 89,294 Chevrolet Sparks.
The problems identified with Cadillac SRX and Saab 9-4X SUVs vehicles were loose joint and worn threads in the rear toe link assembly. These issues may cause vehicle to move at highway speed and if it separates, increasing the risk of a crash.
The Chevrolet Sparks recall is linked to concerns related to corrosion that can cause the secondary hood latch striker to stick in the open position. After its three recalls earlier this week, GM has tried to assuage investors by outlining its strategic plan. In total, the earlier three recalls cover about 642,650 vehicles.
GM also stopped deliveries and have instructed dealers not to sell its 2015 Chevrolet.
