Fluor Hanford Wins National Safety Council's Prestigious Robert W. Campbell Award

Fluor Corporation (NYSE:FLR) announced today that the National Safety Council recognized Fluor Hanford, a prime contractor at the Department of Energys (DOE) nuclear cleanup site in Washington State, with its Robert W. Campbell Award. The National Safety Council (NSC) presented the Campbell Award to Fluor Hanford at the opening session of the NSCs 96th Annual Congress & Expo, held last week in Anaheim, Calf.

The Campbell Award recognizes organizations that demonstrate how integration of environmental, health and safety (EHS) management into business operations is a cornerstone of their corporate success. Fluor Hanford received the award for corporations with more than 1,000 employees.

"It is readily apparent that senior management at Fluor Hanford, and its parent company Fluor Corporation, values the safety and health of their employees, as much as they value productivity. Fluor Hanford embraces EHS as a core value, said Janet Froetscher, NSC president and CEO, who presented the award. "We applaud Fluor Hanford for its demonstrated commitment to EHS as it affects business performance and sustainability, and employees lives both at work and off the job.

"This is a significant honor for our employees and management at Fluor Hanford, said John Hopkins, group executive for Fluor Corporation. "We are extremely proud of our record of safety and compliance that we have accomplished over the last 12 years with our partners at the DOE. We take great pride in ensuring that environmental, health and safety compliance and commitment are the hallmark of all of our employees.

"The Robert W. Campbell Award is the most prestigious global ESH award given by the National Safety Council. Fluor Hanford's selection, out of approximately 100 U.S. and international applicants, is a direct reflection of the corporate value that Fluor places on ESH in both our day-to-day operations and at every level in the company from our workers on the projects to our executive leadership, said Garry Flowers, senior vice president for HSE, Corporate Security & Industrial Relations. "The men and women of Fluor Hanford are to be congratulated for this tremendous accomplishment. Their efforts consistently reflect the core values of Fluor in all of their activities."

Fluor Hanford impressed the Campbell Awards international review panel with its EHS initiatives in which employees were exceptionally involved. Fluor Hanford showed consistent support of EHS program management to help safeguard employees on and off the job, resulting in significant and positive impacts on their business performances.

Fluor Hanford, a business unit of Fluor Corporation, was established in 1996 to manage environmental remediation activities at the Department of Energys Hanford Nuclear Reservation in south-eastern Washington State. The company employs 3,600 people engaged in dismantling former nuclear-processing facilities, cleaning up contaminated groundwater, retrieving and processing radioactive and chemical waste, and maintaining the Sites infrastructure, which includes a nationally recognized training facility.

"Our employees, and those of the Department of Energy, truly deserve the credit in our earning this honor. The Robert W. Campbell Award validates their commitment to being personally involved in every aspect of the ESH program and collaborating to make our community, Hanford and other DOE sites, better and safer places to live and work. Our job now is to stay the course with outstanding performance, said Fluor Hanfords President and Chief Executive Officer, Bruce Hanni.

Campbell Award winners undergo rigorous assessments that include site visits and comprehensive evaluations of their commitment to and implementation of EHS practices. Award winners work with an international partnership of 21 organizations to develop case studies that illustrate their superior EHS programs and best practices, for use by top business and engineering schools worldwide.

Named for Robert W. Campbell, a safety pioneer and the first president of the NSC, the award (www.CampbellAward.org) is underwritten by Exxon Mobil Corporation through its philanthropic foundation. Past Campbell Award winners include Noble Corporation, Johnson & Johnson, Alcan Inc., DynMcDermott Petroleum Operations, and the Bahrain Petroleum Company.
