DGAP-News: electronica 2018: First Sensor Showcases New Platform for Driver Assistance
DGAP-News: First Sensor AG / Key word(s): Miscellaneous electronica 2018: First Sensor Showcases New Platform for Driver Assistance - Embedded ECU creates the basis for sensor data fusion - Next step towards the development of complex sensor systems for ADAS First Sensor AG, a developer and manufacturer of standard products and customer-specific sensor solutions on the growth market of sensor technology, is moving sensor data fusion forward with the introduction of a scalable hardware and software platform for driver assistance systems. The company will present the Embedded Electronic Control Unit (ECU) to trade professionals for the first time at electronica, the world's leading exhibition for electronics, which begins tomorrow in Munich. "With the control unit, we are expanding our capabilities in the future-oriented field of partially and fully autonomous driving and offering OEMs an attractively priced solution for integrating different types of sensors and software applications," explains Dr. Dirk Rothweiler, CEO of First Sensor AG. Based on its strategy, the sensor manufacturer is enhancing its software expertise to develop complex sensor systems for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). "Driven by national and international legislation, the use of driver assistance systems will continue to increase in order to improve road safety," added Dr. Rothweiler. Most traffic accidents are due to driver error. Besides safety, comfort and cost benefits are further factors in the use of the driver assistance systems. Innovation-driven manufacturers of commercial and special-purpose vehicles in particular are working at full speed on the use of partially and fully autonomous vehicles. In the last financial year, First Sensor generated around 20% of its sales in the Mobility target market with products for trucks, buses and special-purpose vehicles. "In order to achieve further growth there, we are already using samples to promote the Embedded ECU to various companies," said Wilhelm Prinz von Hessen, Vice President Mobility at First Sensor AG. The control unit is being developed and produced in accordance with the IATF standard 16949 for the automotive industry at First Sensor Mobility GmbH in Dresden. Up to six cameras as well as further sensors such as LiDAR, radar or ultrasound can be combined with the platform. In addition, software applications such as area view, rear-view mirror replacement and object detection have already been implemented, which customers can augment with their own applications.
