Comcast NBCUniversal Awards $110,000 In Scholarships To 101 Massachusetts High School Seniors

BOSTON, May 30, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The Comcast Foundation today announced the 2017 recipients of its annual Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship Program awards in Massachusetts. The program, funded by the Comcast Foundation, recognizes the best and brightest high school seniors for their community service, academic performance and leadership skills.

"Our administration is committed to helping students across the Commonwealth receive a quality, affordable education and we are pleased to have partners like Comcast assist in those efforts," said Lt. Governor Karyn Polito. "We are extremely proud of the young men and women receiving Leaders & Achievers Scholarships for all they have done to better themselves and their communities and look forward to their future growth and success."

Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito and Comcast recognized the students at a special event held at the State House today. 100 Leaders and Achievers recipients received $1,000 scholarships and one lucky student was awarded a $10,000 Comcast Founders Scholarship – instituted in honor of Ralph J. Roberts, Founder and Chairman Emeritus of Comcast Corporation.

"Comcast is honored to recognize our Leaders & Achievers Scholarship winners for going above and beyond – both in their own achievements and for the greater good of their communities," said Tracy Pitcher, Senior Vice President of Comcast's Greater Boston Region. "We wish each of them continued success and we congratulate their teachers and families for helping them excel."

The Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program provides scholarships to students who strive to achieve their full potential, who are catalysts for positive change in their communities, who are involved in their schools, and who serve as models for their fellow students. The philosophy behind the program is to give young people every opportunity to prepare for the future and to engage them in their communities. The program also demonstrates the importance of civic involvement, and the value placed on civic involvement by the business community.

Since 2003, Comcast has awarded $1,355,000 in Leaders & Achievers Scholarships to 1,247 students in Massachusetts. This year, the program will award more than $2 million in scholarships to more than 2,000 students across the country to help them pursue higher education. Visit here to learn more.
