Citrix Launches Next-Generation Standard for Centralized Application Delivery with Presentation Server 4.0 Unprecedented Scalability, Compatibility, Performance and Printing Technology Promise New Era in Mobilizing People, Information and Businesses
Citrix Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:CTXS), the global leader in access infrastructure solutions, today announced Citrix(R) Presentation Server(TM) 4.0, a significant new release of the world's most widely deployed presentation server. Presentation Server 4.0 will provide customers a more powerful way to reduce application delivery costs, increase the utility of any information system, and provide the best access experience from any location, from any device, to any application.
Citrix understands that today's global enterprises need much more than an access product - they need an access platform. Organizations demand access infrastructure solutions that provide an array of business-critical features such as rapid application deployment and optimization of system performance, while addressing access concerns such as the increasing scrutiny of security practices and compliance with new regulatory requirements. In its fourth generation, Citrix Presentation Server spans more than 15 years of technology development and provides the optimal foundation for an organization's access strategy.
The new version of Presentation Server is unrivaled in its performance speed and ability to scale - supporting up to 1,000 servers and as many as 100,000 users. Presentation Server 4.0 can also deploy a much broader range of applications and features a new print driver that delivers printing up to 400 percent faster using less bandwidth and memory. Further, what was once a standalone application, Conferencing Manager, is now a built-in feature of Presentation Server.
"Our Department of Defense customers operate under the most demanding remote access scenarios imaginable," says Lt. Colonel Gary R. Lopez, director of advanced programs for Coherent Systems International Corporation. "Citrix Presentation Server speeds the global delivery of mission-critical information to users in the office or on the battlefield, with a level of security that meets the exacting requirements of the U.S. Military user."
"Citrix continues to address our customers' needs for secure, ubiquitous access to business-critical applications and information - whether in the office, at home or on the road," said Rick Braddy, vice president of product marketing and management for Citrix. "Presentation Server 4.0 is the most powerful, scalable and compatible release we have ever delivered, providing the best foundation for providing access to mission-critical applications available. With enterprise-class scalability, broader application support, faster logon times, file transfers, browsing and faster printing, the new version of Presentation Server promises to improve not only user satisfaction and productivity but companies' bottom lines."
Mobilizing People, Information and Business
With Citrix SmoothRoaming(TM) technology, Presentation Server 4.0 delivers continuous access across devices, networks and locations with universal application publishing, device and network independence. Users can move from device to device, with their application sessions following them, ensuring seamless transitions across access scenarios, including the ability to automatically print to the nearest printer.
With Citrix SmartAccess technology, Presentation Server 4.0 provides control over which and how enterprise applications are accessed. For example, a user working in the office may have full access to local devices, drives and peripherals, but when connecting from outside the corporate network Presentation Server can restrict local access to prevent the downloading of confidential information or the introduction of viruses into the corporate computing environment, while still providing access to a prescribed, appropriate set of applications. The latest version includes improved application support of smart cards by eliminating the need for specific application configuration.
Another new feature of the software allows Pocket PC users to synchronize their PDAs with e-mail applications running on Presentation Server. The feature eliminates the need for serial cradles and requires no configuration on user workstations - it is plug and sync.
Both SmoothRoaming and SmartAccess technologies are greatly enhanced when Citrix Presentation Server is leveraged with Citrix Password Manager(TM) for enterprise single sign-on, and Citrix Access Gateway(TM) for a hardened SSL VPN appliance with granular access control. The power of all three products is combined in the Citrix Access Suite 4.0.
Optimizing the Efficiency of IT
Citrix Presentation Server is built for scalability and continuous availability with built-in fault tolerance by routing users to available servers and applications, load balancing, session reliability, server-platform and operating-system independence and multi-language localization.
Presentation Server protects information through an architecture that is Secure by Design, centralizing the application infrastructure, securing information in the data center while providing controlled access from outside the corporate network, providing SSL/TLS encryption, enabling regulatory compliance and enforcing access policies. By centralizing applications and data, organizations can control and monitor access, keep out viruses, spyware and other unwanted programs.
With improved systems controls that give end-to-end visibility, Presentation Server allows organizations to observe, monitor and measure resource utilization and server farm health with robust reporting, delegated administration, a powerful enterprise-class administrative console, and integration with third-party network- and systems-management tools. Version 4.0 also has a diagnostic facility that allows administrators to create trace logs and other system information to assist Citrix technical support in diagnosing the problem and Hotfix Management that helps IT staff manage hotfixes for Citrix software.
Presentation Server 4.0 for the first time offers unified licensing for heterogeneous environments - including Windows(R) and UNIX(R) server support. The platform supports all of the following operating systems: Microsoft Windows Server(TM) 2003, Microsoft(R) Windows 2000 Server, Sun Solaris, IBM AIX, and HP-UX.
Pricing and Availability
Citrix Presentation Server 4.0 will be available in the second quarter of 2005. It will be available in three editions, Enterprise, Advanced and Standard, depending on customer usage needs. Citrix Presentation Server is available for purchase under the Easy, Open and Flex licensing models. Prices include one year of Citrix Subscription Advantage(TM), which offers automatic, priority access to the latest product upgrades and enhancements.
