Apple Unveils Mac Pro With OS X Mavericks
(RTTNews) - In an effort to take professional computing to the next level, Apple is out with its all-new Mac Pro, packed with the latest generation Xeon CPUs, dual FirePro GPUs and an ultra-fast memory. The new Mac Pro is indicated to be twice as powerful as the previous generation and comes with a price tag starting at $2,999. The new Mac Pro will be available in December.
Measuring just 9.9-inches in height and one-eighth the volume of its predecessor, the Mac Pro is designed around a unified thermal core that allows the system to efficiently share thermal capacity across all the processors. An innovative fan draws in air efficiently, enabling the device to run as quiet as a Mac mini.
The new Mac Pro features 4-core, 6-core, 8-core or 12-core Intel Xeon processors running at Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.9 GHz. Coupled with two AMD FirePro GPUs with about 12GB of video memory, the Mac Pro delivers eight times the graphics performance of the previous generation machine.
The new Mac Pro also comes loaded with dozens of professional apps including Final Cut Pro X, Logic Pro X and Aperture. Flash storage makes importing and exporting thousands of high-resolution images faster with Aperture.
The new Mac Pro ships with OS X Mavericks and is the 10th major release of Apple's desktop operating system. With more than 200 new features, enhanced multi-display support, and other improvements, OS X Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store, free of cost.
Apple has also upgraded its MacBook Pro line of notebooks with new fourth generation Intel Core processors, Retina display, and longer battery life. The MacBook Pro will carry a new price tag of $1,299.
The 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display features 2.6 GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processors, which can clock up to 2.8 GHz.
Meanwhile, the 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display features fourth generation quad-core Intel Core i7 processors to clock up to 2.3 GHz. The 15-inch model can be configured with faster quad-core Intel Core i7 processors up to 2.6 GHz with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.8 GHz.
Improved graphics, coupled with Retina display delivers a stunning high-resolution display. The new battery gives 2 hours of additional life compared to its predecessor, and promises up to nine hours of iTunes movie playback.
