American Express Profit Tops Estimates, Revenue Misses On Stronger Dollar

(RTTNews) - American Express Co (AXP) on Thursday reported first-quarter net earnings of $1.51 billion or $1.48 per share compared with $1.42 billion or $1.33 per share last year.

On average, 28 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters estimated earnings of $1.37 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

Revenues, net of interest expense, for the quarter were lower by 3 percent at $7.95 billion compared with $8.17 billion in the prior year.

Nineteen analysts had a consensus revenue estimate of $8.21 billion for the quarter.

The company said the stronger dollar impacted revenues for the quarter.

Shares of the company were losing $0.81 or 1.00% at $80.10 in after-hours trade on the NYSE.
