Mauritius December Trade Deficit Widens
(RTTNews) - Mauritius' foreign trade deficit in December widened from a year ago, as imports grew faster than exports, preliminary figures from the statistical office showed Tuesday.
The visible trade deficit increased to MUR 9.1 billion in December from MUR 8.6 billion in the same month last year.In November, the shortfall was MUR 7.6 billion.
Exports grew 3.1 percent year-on-year and imports rose 4.3 percent. On a monthly basis, exports climbed 5.6 percent and imports grew 12.1 percent.
UAE, United Kingdom, USA and France were the country's major export destinations in December. Majority of imports came from India, China, South Africa and France.
