BRAZIL: Lawmakers Withdraw Public Fund From Political Reform
(RTTNews) - Brazilian representatives withdrew from the political reform bill a provision that would establish a 0.5% share in the current government's revenue to fund political parties.
After that decision, the Brazilian representatives postponed the vote on the matter for next Tuesday.
The next topic to be discussed, next week, will be the adoption a the mixed district system for the elections from 2022 forward and the so-called "big district" for 2018 and 2020.
Under popular pressure against the creation of a fund to finance the electoral campaigns, the Brazilian lawmakers sought a new strategy: to keep in the creation of the fund in the bill, but addressing the Congress to define in the budget of the year prior to the election the public resources amount to be allocated to the campaigns.
