NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 24, 2005--For the 39th consecutive year, Tiffany & Co. has created the Vince Lombardi Super Bowl Trophy, which will be presented to the winning team on Super Bowl Sunday. The goal of greatness is crafted into every detail of this revered trophy:

-- Originally designed by Tiffany for the first Super Bowl in 1967. Former Tiffany & Co. Vice President Oscar Riedener sketched the trophy's basic design during a meeting with Pete Rozelle, then commissioner of the NFL.

-- In 1970, the trophy was renamed for Vince Lombardi, coach of the Green Bay Packers, winners of the first two Super Bowls.

-- The trophy is created at Tiffany's workshop in Parsippany, New Jersey.

-- Master artisans employ age-old techniques - spinning, silversmithing, chasing, hand engraving, and polishing - to create the trophy.

-- The design features a regulation-size football rendered entirely in sterling silver.

-- The 22-inch-high trophy weighs nearly seven pounds and takes approximately four months and 72 man hours to complete.

-- After the field ceremony in Jacksonville, the trophy will be returned to Tiffany's workshop where the name of the winning team will be hand engraved on the trophy.

"Tiffany is honored to play a role in what has become one of America's greatest sporting events," said Scott Shibley, Tiffany & Co. vice president. "While each year crowns a new Super Bowl champion, the trophy that is presented to the winning team is created with the same uncompromising standards of craftsmanship and design excellence that have defined Tiffany & Co. for over eight generations."
Tiffany & Co. also has the honor of creating the Pete Rozelle Trophy. Named for the late NFL Commissioner whose distinguished career spanned nearly thirty years, the trophy is presented to the Most Valuable Player of the Super Bowl game. First awarded in 1991 at Super Bowl XXV, the shooting star design is 18 inches high and hand-crafted from 86 ounces of sterling silver. The trophy is accented with vermeil, a centuries-old practice in which Gold is applied over silver.
Tiffany & Co. creates trophies for many of the world's greatest sporting events. These designs include the National Basketball Association Larry O'Brien Championship Trophy, the World Series Trophy for Major League Baseball, and the U.S. Open Tennis Championship Trophies. Inspired by the transcendent form and energy of competition, these outstanding Tiffany designs are a lasting tribute to the athletes' dedication and the thrill of victory.
