Symantec to Host Webcast Series with Leading Industry Analysts on Best Practices for Ensuring Client Resilience

    CUPERTINO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 17, 2005--Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq:SYMC), the global leader in information security, today announced it will host a series of four systems management and recovery webcasts featuring Gartner, Inc., the leading provider of research and analysis on the global information technology industry. The webcasts will discuss best practices on topics such as client management, patch management, backup and recovery, and IT asset management. Each session will address the critical need for client resilience to help organizations ensure client devices are secure, available and compliant with corporate standards from acquisition to disposal.

    The series of four live webcasts will include the following sessions:

    -- Thursday, May 19, 11 a.m. PDT -- Overcoming Today's Client
    Management Issues

    The first webcast, "Overcoming Today's Client Management Issues," will demonstrate how greater controls and consistency across an organization's IT infrastructure can help ensure client devices are secure, available and compliant with corporate standards. The webcast will be led by Michael Silver, vice president and research director, Gartner Research, and Don Kleinschnitz, vice president of product delivery, Symantec. Symantec will also address how the Symantec LiveState Client Management Suite can help organizations sustain a competitive edge by managing and controlling changes that occur throughout the IT environment.

    -- Thursday, May 26, 11 a.m. PDT -- Helping Ensure a Secure
    Computing Environment Using Effective Patch Management

    The second webcast, "Helping Ensure a Secure Computing Environment Using Effective Patch Management," will focus on how effective patch management can provide client resilience by helping ensure client devices remain secure and available, even with vulnerabilities on the rise and exploits spreading faster than ever. The webcast will be led by Mark Nicolett, vice president, Gartner Research, and Phil Neray, senior director of strategic marketing, Symantec. In this session, Symantec will also demonstrate how Symantec LiveState Patch Manager can help organizations take a more proactive approach to patch management in order to secure client devices across the organization.

    -- Thursday, June 2, 11 a.m. PDT -- Protecting the Integrity and
    Availability of Your Company's Information

    The third webcast, "Protecting the Integrity and Availability of Your Company's Information," will show how backup and recovery solutions for an organization's systems as well as its data help ensure a highly available and resilient infrastructure. This session will be led by Raymond Paquet, vice president and research director, Gartner Research, and Susie Spencer, senior product marketing manager, Symantec. Symantec will also discuss how Symantec LiveState Recovery Manager can help reduce downtime by enabling organizations to recover quickly from situations that can cause their critical information to become unavailable.

    -- Thursday, June 9, 11 a.m. PDT -- Getting a Handle on IT Assets

    The webcast series will conclude with a session titled "Getting a Handle on IT Assets." This session will emphasize the importance of identifying and tracking all hardware and software assets throughout an organization to help ensure its IT infrastructure remains secure, available and compliant with corporate standards. This webcast will be hosted by Patricia Adams, senior analyst, Gartner Research, and Jacqueline Brinkerhoff, senior product marketing manager, systems management, Symantec. In this session, Symantec will also address how Symantec Discovery can help organizations reduce exposure to risk, decrease IT costs and manage ongoing change.
