StorageTek Appoints Two New Company Fellows

LOUISVILLE, Colo., Feb. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Imagination. Inspiration. Genius. StorageTek Fellows are the total package.

StorageTek(R) (Storage Technology Corporation) , the leading provider of enterprise information lifecycle management, today named two technology engineers to the company's prestigious StorageTek Fellows program. Marcia Martin and Ravi Kavuri were each honored for their forward-looking technology innovation, distinguished achievement and ongoing leadership within the Software Development unit of StorageTek's Research, Development and Engineering organization.

"Through their accomplishments and invaluable contributions to StorageTek's engineering efforts, Marcia and Ravi have established themselves, and are recognized, as engineering leaders within the storage industry," said Pat Martin, president, chairman and CEO, StorageTek. "Their continued commitment to helping our customers advance information lifecycle management strategies that drive primary storage efficiency, simplify and automate backup and recovery and enable a flexible compliance and archiving architecture exemplifies the spirit of creativity, innovation and dedication that we all share at StorageTek."

Marcia Martin: Since joining StorageTek in 1998, Martin has demonstrated vast expertise across a broad range of technologies and trends, and she applies this understanding to predict and solve future customer challenges. In 2001, her analysis of the disruptive effects of inexpensive disks on the traditional backup/recovery paradigm led her to conclude that there would be a necessity for the separation of customers' data protection and archive initiatives. This vision has been validated in recent months via several vendor announcements and initiatives that support this view.

In 2000, Martin was the originator and architect at StorageTek of a new data protection paradigm called 'continuous data protection,' a concept that's first deployment won four best-of-year industry awards for StorageTek in 2003. Many storage experts now consider this concept to be a seminal technology enabler for the emerging wave of new data protection methodologies. Martin's ability to analyze, predict future trends and invent groundbreaking technologies across these and other areas of focus led to her receipt of the StorageTek technical excellence Gold Plateau Award in 2002.

Ravi Kavuri: Since joining StorageTek in 1992, Kavuri has helped advance several new storage technologies and successfully bring them to market. Over the past 12 years, he has worked on internetworking routers and refocused and later lead the SN6000 product initiative as lead architect. More recently, Kavuri helped architect the Common Platform, which provides a distributed operating infrastructure that enables the development of multiple storage applications, reducing the development time needed to bring products to market.

In addition to his engineering duties, Kavuri has led research initiatives in the areas of communication protocols, parallel processing and cluster computing, scale-free storage, global name spaces and other areas that have provided StorageTek with valuable intellectual property and patents. He works extensively with StorageTek engineers, management and customers to provide technical assessments that have helped shape the future direction of the company.

"We congratulate Marcia and Ravi on their receipt of StorageTek's most prestigious technical honor, and extend to them our utmost gratitude for their continued hard work," continued Martin.
