Search For Missing MH370 Flight To End In December With No Clue So Far
(RTTNews) - Even after two years of thoroughly searching across the Indian Ocean, using modern technologies and devices, there is no clue about the Malaysian airline that vanished on March 8, 2014.
Even the flaperon found off the coast of Reunion island and other debris found on the shores of Mozambique, Mauritius, and South Africa have not yet fully been confirmed to be part of the missing plane.
The team of experts, led by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau is planning to place replica flaperons in the Indian Ocean to track the movements and speed. There will be six replicas in total, with each one fitted with a transmitter.
The experts will monitor whether wind or the currents affect the movements. The Oceanography department of Australia's Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization will be monitoring the flaperon replicas.
The search team has scoured 110,000 square kilometers of seafloor at a cost of $180 million to trace the flight. The search was a very complex one with a wide and remote area of 1.1 million square kilometers in size and previously un-mapped.
The area had chaotic seafloor terrain with depths of up to 6,000 meters, sheer cliffs of 2,000 meters, mountains, crevasses and ridges. The search has found debris from at least two shipwrecks in the area.
There have been several strange theories rumored around the globe about the disappearance of the Boeing 777. A few think that the plane with 239 people on board was hijacked. "Flight MH370 - The Mystery," a book written by London-based journalist and author Nigel Cawthorne, suggested that it was shot down accidentally in a joint military exercise in the South China Sea.
There was a theory that the pilot of the missing plane deliberately hid the plane away from the eyes of radar for thousands of miles and flew the plane into the depths of the ocean. However, many experts disagree with the "death dive" theory.
The Joint Agency Co-Ordination Centre is planning to wrap up the hunt for the missing plane, probably by December. However, it has not mentioned an exact date.
By October, when weather conditions improve, the joint agency plans to deploy Remotely Operated Vehicles from Dong Hai Jiu 101 that is anchored off Frenmantle in Western Australia. The predetermined search area of 120,000 square kilometers will be finished by December of 2016.
