Scotiabank Q3 Profit Rises, Lifts Dividend - Quick Facts

(RTTNews) - Bank of Nova Scotia (BNS, BNS.TO), known as Scotiabank, reported Tuesday that its third-quarter net income attributable to equity holders of the Bank increased to C$1.897 billion from last year's C$1.795 billion. Earnings per share were C$1.54, compared to C$1.45 in the same period a year ago.

Canadian Banking's attributable net income grew 8 percent to C$930 million, with higher net interest margin, solid growth from assets and deposits, and the impact of the credit card portfolio acquired from JPMorgan Chase Bank.

International Banking's net income increased 9% and Global Banking and Markets' net income grew 12%.

Total revenue increased to C$6.64 billion from prior year's C$6.12 billion.

Brian Porter, President and CEO of Scotiabank, said, "This quarter's very good results were driven by strong operating performances in all three business lines. All of our businesses continue to grow and deepen customer relationships, which has delivered solid asset, deposit and revenue growth."

Separately, Scotiabank said it increased quarterly dividend by 2 cents to 74 cents per share, a 6% increase from last year. The dividend is payable on October 27 to shareholders of record at the close of business on October 4.
