Satyam's Automotive Offerings Set to Scale New Orbits
CHENNAI, India, February 3 /PRNewswire/ --
- Launches State-of-the-Art Automotive Center of Excellence(ACE) in Detroit to enable better customer engagement
- Pioneers the launch of Digital Manufacturing, the next wave of IT technology offering in Automotive
Satyam Computer Services Limited (NYSE: SAY), today announced strategic initiatives in the automotive vertical that would help the company further consolidate its dominance in this space. Satyam's development centre in Detroit, to be launched today, would be exclusively focused on automotive offerings. It will also launch its digital manufacturing practice, and become one of the pioneers to launch this technology that will revolutionize the Automotive industry.
The state-of-the-art Automotive Center of Excellence (ACE) built over a 6000 sq.ft area will house over 50 engineers, to be scaled up over the years. ACE will focus on automotive industry specific solution building and R&D, leveraging Satyam's alliances with leading industry domain and technology solution providers as well as leading academic and research institutions. Some of the areas of focus at the ACE would include automotive engineering solutions, automotive electronics, real time manufacturing, supply chain, automotive enterprise solution and digital manufacturing.
With the launch of its Digital Manufacturing Practice, Satyam is well placed to tap the forecasted spend of multibillion dollars by 2009 for Digital Manufacturing Software and services. Digital Manufacturing leverages IT to collaboratively develop the manufacturing plan and manufacturing equipment simultaneously with the product. Design flaws, manufacturing kinks and inefficient processes can thus be hammered out and corrected early on when changes create little disruption of critical time-to-market schedules.
The Chief Automotive Solutions Architect for the CoE would be Mr Kenneth Taormina. Kenneth joined Satyam in December 2005, Satyam as Sr Vice President - Manufacturing .He will facilitate the design of high-end industry solutions in the Manufacturing and Automotive Vertical, as well as be responsible to foster and cultivate a close relationship with Satyam's global customers at the CxO level.
Commenting on the developments Mr.Ramalinga Raju, Founder and Chairman - Satyam, said "Traditionally, Automotive and Manufacturing sectors have been one of the early adopters of technology and we are seeing a rapid growth in this industry in the last few years. With service offering requirements centered around high-end and emerging technologies - the stronghold of Satyam, we feel it is the right time and location to enhance our focus in the automotive space where we already enjoy a strong leadership position."
"The setting up of our Automotive Center of Excellence at Detroit is significant milestone for us towards our vision of being a preferred solution partner to our global automotive customers. Satyam's automotive practice is one of the largest global automotive practices today. This local presence through our ACE at Detroit will help us connect with the industry better and significantly enhance our ability to provide automotive industry specific solutions to our customers" said Mr. Subu D Subramanian, Director & Senior Vice President of Satyam's Manufacturing and Automotive Businesses.
Digital Manufacturing - Manufacturing by design
In an ever changing business environment, manufacturers are continuously looking for tools that enable faster time to market, reduce complexities and cost thereby retaining their competitiveness.
Digital Manufacturing is a tool that addresses the above mentioned challenges by providing the automobile manufacturers with the flexibility to incorporate necessary changes digitally. Digital Manufacturing is set to be the next wave in IT solutions for Manufacturing, with the industry size projected to be in multibillion Dollar range by 2009.
Digital Manufacturing tools are a set of software applications that simulate the Engineering Operations so that designs, manufacturing operations & their associated planning can be checked & corrected virtually before any metal goes under the tools. The simulation is carried out in a multi- dimensional environment and gives a true representation of how the product & process behaves in an actual environment. The idea behind digital manufacturing is to leverage IT to collaboratively develop the manufacturing plan and manufacturing equipment simultaneously with the product. The output of which can be incorporated both in product & process design to effect the desired outcome.
Digital Manufacturing (DM) solution not only functions as a tool that projects the virtual factory, but also acts as an information integrator that constantly communicates with all the systems in the network. For example, a DM solution for traceability system captures the actual data in the shop floor, compares it with the plan & signals in case of any discrepancies that could lead to product quality issues. Since all data is recorded & stored, the management can probe into the root cause of the defect. A further drill down of the same can track real time errors that have occurred at a particular process in the line, thereby providing a critical root cause analysis.
