Rio Tinto Q2 Global Iron Ore Production Totals 66 Mln Tonnes - Quick Facts

(RTTNews) - Mining giant Rio Tinto plc (RIO, RIO.L, RTNTF, RTPPF) reported global iron ore production of 66.0 million tonnes in the second quarter of 2013, a 7% increase from the prior-year period. Three-month global iron ore shipments were 1% ahead of last year amounting to 61.3 million tonnes.

On a year-over-year basis, quarterly mined copper production advanced by 10%, and Aluminium up by 7%, while Hard coking coal dropped 5%.

Inspite of certain challenging weather situations, the company said its iron ore expansion remains on track to deliver first tonnes by the end of this quarter. Looking ahead, Rio Tinto projects its share of mined and refined copper production Of 565,000 tonnes and 230,000 tonnes, respectively in 2013.
