Renee McCloskey, APR, FCPRS honoured with the Canadian Public Relations Society's Philip A. Novikoff Memorial Award
CHARLOTTETOWN, May 28, 2018 /CNW/ - In recognition of her contributions to both the Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) and the public relations profession, CPRS National has awarded Renee McCloskey APR, FCPRS the 2018 Philip A. Novikoff Memorial Award.
One of CPRS' most prestigious Major Awards, the Philip A. Novikoff Memorial award is given annually to a member who contributes to the enhancement of Society and the public relations profession overall. McCloskey accepted the award in front of a roomful of colleagues at Charlottetown's Delta Prince Edward Hotel, at Connexions 2018.
"Over the years, the Novikoff Award has recognized outstanding Canadian PR practitioners who raise the bar in terms of professional and ethical public relations management. Through my participation in CPRS, I have been inspired and mentored by these leaders. To be considered in their company as a fellow Novikoff winner is one of the biggest honours of my life," said McCloskey.
Like most CPRS Major Awards, McCloskey was nominated by a fellow member who praised her dedication at both the National and Local levels, citing her many achievements over the years. These include her term as the National Society's 59th president and welcoming the first ever World Public Relations Forum to Canada; being a charter member of CPRS Northern Lights and serving on its executive for the majority of its first 15 years; and, leading the way for the practice of public relations in Northern B.C. and bringing national attention to the vision of the profession as practiced in the region.
"Perhaps nowhere in Renee's passion and commitment to the profession of public relations demonstrated better than in her participation and leadership in the CPRS," said her nominator. "While she has been a pioneer in her career, she has been an absolute trailblazer – far out in front of anyone else – in building awareness of, support for and involvement in CPRS in the northern two-thirds of B.C. and beyond. She believes in the practice of public relations, its importance to the people and institutions of the country, and the need to establish it as a trusted profession within our communities."
Established in 1989 in memory of long-time CPRS member Philip A. Novikoff, the award is given to an accredited member who has furthered the standing of the public relations profession in Canada. This year's Novikoff Award was one of 10 Major and Special awards presented during the three-day Connexions 2018 program to recognize exceptional involvement in the public relations profession.
