ProAssurance Profit In Line With Estimates, Premiums Surpass Expectations

(RTTNews) - ProAssurance Corp (PRA), an insurance holding company, on Thursday reported second-quarter net earnings of $33.2 million or $0.60 per share compared with $49.4 million or $0.84 per share last year.

Excluding items, operating earnings for the quarter were $0.64 per share compared with $0.69 per share a year ago.

Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters estimated earnings of $0.64 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

Total revenues for the quarter were $203.4 million compared with $222.4 million in the prior year.

Gross premiums written climbed to $194.1 million from $187.1 million a year ago, while analysts estimated $190.8 million.

Combined ratio worsened to 89.8% from 85.7% a year ago.
