Newell Rubbermaid Names Nicolin President - Newell Rubbermaid Europe

ATLANTA, Sept. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Newell Rubbermaid Inc. today announced that Magnus R. Nicolin has been hired as President, Newell Rubbermaid Europe, reporting to Chief Executive Officer Mark D. Ketchum. The assignment will become effective January 1, 2007. In this newly created position, Magnus will lead the re-platforming of the company's $800 million European, Middle Eastern and African business, consistent with the global business unit approach the company is evolving.

His skill set will help us find efficient growth and improved profitability throughout our European businesses," said Ketchum. "There is tremendous potential for our resized European portfolio to contribute to future results. Magnus has demonstrated that he has the leadership necessary to execute our strategic initiatives, and drive Newell Rubbermaid's focus on Brands That Matter(TM). The current European platform includes such well known brands as Waterman(R), Parker(R), LENOX(R), IRWIN(R), Graco(R), Paper Mate(R) and Sharpie(R)."

Nicolin, 49, has acted as a consultant for Newell Rubbermaid in the Fine Writing business since May 1, 2006. Previously, he was president and chief executive officer of Esselte Office Products. In his seven years at Esselte Magnus led the LBO of Esselte and over four years drove significant value creation including the sale of the DYMO division to Newell Rubbermaid in December 2005. Previous company experience includes Pitney Bowes, Bayer Diagnostics and McKinsey & Co.

Nicolin holds a BA from The Stockholm School of Economics and a MBA from The Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania.

At the same time, the company is announcing that Karl Kahofer, president of the Rubbermaid/Irwin Group Europe will be leaving the company at the end of the year to pursue other interests -- we want to thank Karl for his outstanding service to Newell Rubbermaid these past five years.

Additionally, Mr. Nicolin will assume interim responsibility for European Office Products, reporting to Steve Marton. Denis Terrien, President of Sanford -- Europe will report to Mr. Nicolin in this capacity.
