New overall traffic record for Eurotunnel Le Shuttle over Christmas holiday period

In the context of the growing UK economy, heavy holiday traffic over the Christmas period brought good news for Eurotunnel Le Shuttle, which carries passenger vehicles across the Channel in just 35 minutes. Between Friday 13 December 2013 and Sunday 5 January 2014, a new record was set with almost 210,000¹ passenger vehicles (cars, motorcycles, vehicles with trailers, caravans, camper vans and coaches) crossing, in both directions, between Folkestone in Kent and Coquelles in the Pas-de-Calais. The previous record of nearly 200,000 vehicles was therefore soundly beaten. This success was made possible by an increase in departure frequency over the period, demonstrating that the cross-Channel market reacts above all to supply. This equates to approximately 900,000 passengers preferring Le Shuttle for its speed, environmental benefits and its resistance to bad weather.

Another record fell during the same period, with nearly 1,400 dogs and cats² travelling on Le Shuttle on Saturday 4 January, returning from France to the UK. This beats the previous daily record, set on 31 august 2013, when 1,163 pets were carried. Eurotunnel Le Shuttle is the favourite route across the Channel for our four legged friends and owners who prefer to remain with their pets during the crossing
