Netflix To Boost Investments In France
(RTTNews) - Netflix Inc. (NFLX) on Friday announced plans to boost its investments in France. The online video streaming giant will also expand its international footprint by reportedly launching a new office in Paris, its third in Europe after Amsterdam and London.
As part of its investments in France, Netflix announced three new French series and the acquisition of four new French films and documentaries. The company noted that all titles will be available in over 190 countries where Netflix is available.
Erik Barmack, Vice President of International Originals at Netflix said, "We are delighted to announce today three new French series - a witty comedy about friends, family and weed; a psychological horror series; and a modern, coming of age vampire tale in Paris - for our French and Global audience to enjoy."
"Family Business" (working title) is a half-hour comedy series about a young man who recruits his best friends to help save his family's business, by transforming their butcher shop into France's first coffee shop.
"Marianne" is a series produced by Empreinte Digitale and Federation. It tells the story of Emma, an acerbic young novelist who discovers that the terrifying characters she writes in her bestselling series of horror novels, might also be living in the real world.
Netflix will also produce an upcoming series adapted from the book "Vampies" by Thierry Jonquet.
"Plan Coeur" will be Netflix's next half-hour romantic comedy series co-directed by Noémie Saglio and will be launched by the end of the year.
In addition, Netflix will acquire four new French films and documentaries - Banlieusards, La Grande Classe, Solidarite, and Paris Est Une Fete (working title).
Solidarite is a documentary film written and directed by Stephane de Freita. Paris Est Une Fete, directed by Elisabeth Vogler, is a real-time French love story shot over 3-years on the streets of Paris, without any permits, amidst the crowds.
Netflix CEO Reed Hastings told French business newspaper Les Echos that the company will open a new office in Paris. The decision comes as the number of Netflix subscribers in France stands at about 3.5 million.
