NCHL Announces National Healthcare Leadership Award
CHICAGO, March 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Center for Healthcare Leadership today announced the first National Healthcare Leadership Award that will be given annually to an individual whose cumulative career accomplishments have created an important legacy of leadership excellence in healthcare.
"This award recognizes the critical role that leadership plays in the nation's efforts to improve the quality of healthcare," NCHL President and CEO Marie E. Sinioris said. "The award will honor the importance and value of strong leadership to healthcare and also inspire future generations of leaders."
Modern Healthcare is the co-sponsor of the award, while Owens & Minor, a leading distributor of medical and surgical supplies, is the event sponsor.
"Over the past four years of its existence, NCHL has become a leading authority on healthcare leadership and has helped to move the issue forward as key to improving healthcare in the U.S.," Owens & Minor Chairman and CEO G. Gilmer Minor III said. "Recognizing leaders who are making a difference in the industry is an important way to keep this issue central to achieving excellence."
The selection of the recipient will be made by a committee of leading representatives from provider, supplier, policy, and payor communities, chaired by Dick Gustafson and Steve Shortell, PhD. Nominations will be solicited. The National Leadership Award will be presented at a dinner on December 5 in conjunction with NCHL's Best Practice Conference in Chicago. The dinner event will be chaired by Diane Appleyard and Craig Smith.
"This award will honor a greatly deserving healthcare leader at a time when all facets of healthcare are focused on quality and performance," Fawn Lopez, publisher Modern Healthcare said. "An important part of this event is the Leadership Tribute Journal, to be published at the time of the awards dinner, which will provide understanding and insight into key leadership issues through commissioned articles and studies, including research from NCHL demonstration projects." The Journal committee is chaired by David Fine and Janet Corrigan.
