Leaders in the Private Equity Industry to Be Honored in Hall of Fame; The 12th Annual Event Sept. 20 & 21 at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York
Honorees for the 2005 Hall of Fame in the venture capital categoryare: Franklin "Pitch" Johnson, William Draper Jr., and William DraperIII. The three are being honored for their key roles in developing twoof the West Coast's first venture capital firms, specifically Draper,Gaither and Anderson and Draper & Johnson Investment Company. Theirwork in the venture capital industry spread further with Mr. Johnsonfounding Asset Management Company and Mr. Draper III founding SutterHill Ventures.
The private equity firm Warburg Pincus also will be inducted intothe Hall of Fame in honor of its distinguished track record investingin everything from startups to large buyouts in industries rangingfrom technology to health care to manufacturing. Investment advisorCambridge Associates is being honored for its role in introducinguniversities, foundations, wealthy families, endowed institutions andpublic and corporate pension funds to private equity as well as itsrole in educating the industry, specifically its tracking of returnsand providing industry standard benchmarks.
Stan Pratt, the editor and publisher of the Venture CapitalJournal also is to be honored this year as an industry contributor.Mr. Pratt is also being recognized for his role as founding generalpartner of Abbott Capital Management, one of the early registeredinvestment managers for private equity funds-of-funds.
The Private Equity Hall of Fame was established in 1994 to honorindividuals and organizations that made exemplary and enduringcontributions to the private-equity community. All told, 46individuals and firms have been honored. Previous inductees includeGen. Georges Doriot, Thomas H. Lee, Alan Patricof, The BlackstoneGroup, Greylock, Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers, and YaleUniversity.
The inductees will be honored at a special ceremony on the firstday of the Private Equity Analyst Conference, sponsored by PaulCapital Partners.
