Industry-Leading Pathology Diagnostic Company Selects NEC's Fault Tol
Industry-Leading Pathology Diagnostic Company Selects NEC's Fault Tolerant Servers to Ensure Maximum Availability NEC's High-Availability Server Delivers up to 99.999 Percent Continuous Availability, Averaging Less Than Five Minutes of Planned Downtime Per Year
NEC Solutions (America), Inc., a premier provider of integrated solutions for the Connected Enterprise in North America, today announced that Pathology Partners Inc., the industry leader in comprehensive gastrointestinal (GI) pathology diagnostic services and technology support solutions, purchased the NEC's Express5800/320Lb fault tolerant server. With the use of NEC's fault tolerant platform and VMWare's GSX virtualization software, Pathology Partners is able to provide constant, dependable specimen processing and reporting within 48 hours.
"Our customer base of 1,200 national GI physicians depends on our specimen processing services to aid in diagnosing gastrointestinal and liver patients on a daily basis. As we continue to serve our physicians and in turn their patients, it is imperative our systems are highly available and constantly running," said Robert Herron, Pathology Partners, vice president of IT. "After extensive review of NEC's server coupled with its 'Try 'n Buy Program,' we knew this server could handle our uptime requirements as well as meet future demands."
Pathology Partners consolidated six separate servers each running individual applications onto one NEC FT server. Prior to implementation, managing the availability and fail over of the six servers was a time consuming and tedious process.
Designed for server consolidation, data center applications and server virtualization, the NEC Express5800/320Lb is the ultimate platform for running multiple applications from a single server with instantaneous fail-over, advanced monitoring and no single point of failure.
While delivering the promise of high availability, reliability and affordability, the four way physical -- 2 way logical CPU's within NEC's server, support multiple operating systems in a fully fault tolerant environment. They provide the optimal platform for virtual server applications running multiple operating system application stacks on a single hardware platform. The enterprise class virtualization features of VMware GSX are ideal for departmental server consolidation and streamlining testing operations.
"Anyone who has been diagnosed with an illness knows that time and accuracy is vital to identifying the problem and beginning treatment," said Larry Sheffield, executive vice president of the Solutions Platform Group for NEC Solutions America. "The fact that Pathology Partners trusts NEC's FT server solution to run its diagnostic tests and support -- the core function of its business -- is a testament to our product's high availability and reliability."
