Imation Emphasizes Data Security and Protection at Storage Visions 2010
Imation Corp. (NYSE:IMN), a global leader in data storage, will focus on data protection and security as key themes in the company’s participation at the Storage Visions 2010 Conference this week at the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas. Building on this theme, Imation will feature presentations on advances in storage protection and new wireless technologies for storage, and will exhibit enhancements to its professional storage portfolio, as well as storage products that meet the needs of professional consumers.
William Qualls, Ph.D., director of Imation’s magnetic tape business, will speak in the session "Finding, Protecting and Using Content” at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 5. Daniel Beneke, manager of Research, Development and Engineering for Imation, will speak in the session "Enabling Technologies for High Resolution Applications” at 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 6.
A silver-level sponsor of the conference, Imation is also celebrating a finalist nomination in the Storage Visions "Art of Storage” award for the Imation Pro WX Wireless USB hard drive—the world’s first Wireless USB external hard drive. The Pro WX is just one of the storage products Imation will exhibit in booth 11.
"With the amount of data generated in the world doubling every year, we need to continue to innovate and educate about new data storage solutions to help our customers store and protect the vast volumes of critical business information and personal data. Imation, as a leader in data storage for more than 50 years, understands how to help businesses and individuals make technology decisions critical to effectively storing, protecting and tracking these ever-increasing amounts of data,” said Subodh Kulkarni, chief technology officer, Imation.
"We’re pleased to participate again this year at Storage Visions, both in the conference and exhibits, to help users of all types—from IT managers in Fortune 1000 companies or government agencies to small-medium businesses and professional consumers—understand their storage needs and options. We look forward to discussing leading-edge topics in storage, and exhibiting our full line of data storage and data protection offerings.”
Security, Protection Key Themes Among Imation Products Shared at Conference
True to its heritage of more than 50 years of providing trusted data storage for businesses, Imation will highlight its newest developments in high-capacity data storage tapes and security products for the enterprise, including:
- Imation Secure Scan, the industry’s first tape scanning product with a locking feature, ensures that LTO media cannot be written to or read from any LTO drive, providing an additional layer of security during transport or off-site storage. Imation Secure Scan also enables customers to proactively assess the health of their LTO libraries, delivering the confidence that data is usable when needed.
- DataGuard rf™ Tape Tracking System brings the range, reliability and accuracy of RFID (radio frequency identification) to tape storage. With its patent-pending RFID Volume and Serial Number (Vol-Ser) Labels, Imation combines proven technology into one robust and secure label that incorporates RFID technology, Vol-Ser number identification and advanced ultra-high frequency (UHF) support with an open system that works with any tape management platform.
- DataGuard GPS Tape Tracking System, available in Europe, adds Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) tracking capability to the DataGuard rf™ system. Through real-time GPS tracking, companies can follow the exact locations of tape cases in transit, including an alarm feature in the event of de-routing or unauthorized case-opening attempts.
- LTO-5. Imation will be among the first to bring the new multi-terabyte LTO-5 magnetic tape to market in 2010. With 3.2 TB compressed storage and data transfer rates of up to 360MB/second, LTO-5 cartridges offer significant advances over previous LTO generations.
Imation will also showcase a line of storage products that address the growing needs of small businesses and the professional user:
- Imation RDX removable hard disk cartridges that operate just like traditional tape cartridges while providing all the benefits of disk-to-disk systems. Imation RDX is a tape replacement solution that includes a high-capacity, rugged and removable 2.5-inch HDD cartridge and a docking station with USB and SATA connections. Offering complete data protection with easy and reliable backup, data security and expandable storage, RDX HDD cartridges are available in 160GB, 320GB and 500GB capacities.
- Solid State Drive (SSD) Upgrade Kit. Imation’s next-generation 2.5" M-Class SSD Upgrade Kit offers simple, three-step installation to copy, swap and convert with an all-in-one solution that offers a performance-enhancing SSD replacement for a traditional spinning hard disk drive. And in addition to the improved performance, Imation’s SSD drives offer high reliability and an extended five-year warranty.
- Imation Pro WX Wireless USB Hard Drive. A finalist in the "Art of Storage” category of the Storage Visions awards, Pro WX is the world’s first external hard drive to use innovative Wireless USB technology, and it provides a unique combination of speed, capacity and security in a convenient 3.5" form factor. With a transfer rate of up to 15MB/second and 1.5 TB capacity, the drive is perfect for digitally driven users who crave the freedom of the wireless workplace.
- Imation’s portfolio of USB flash drives, including the Atom, Pivot and Swivel flash drives, are built to last with a wide range of styles, capacities and security levels. The drives are designed to meet the portable storage needs of the most discerning user.
