Havertys 2nd Quarter Cash Dividend Declared; Promotions Announced

ATLANTA, May 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- At the annual meeting of the Board of Directors of HAVERTY FURNITURE COMPANIES, INC., held on May 14, 2008, the directors declared a cash dividend to be paid on the two classes of $1 par value common stock of the Company, payable Friday, June 13, 2008 to stockholders of record at the close of business on Thursday, May 29, 2008, at a rate of $0.0675 per share on the outstanding shares of Common Stock (Cusip #419596101) and $0.0625 per share on the outstanding shares of Class A Common Stock (Cusip #419596200).

Havertys has paid a quarterly cash dividend since 1935.

The Board also announced today expanded leadership roles and promotions of Steven G. Burdette, J. Edward Clary and Scott T. Miles.

Steven G. Burdette was named executive vice president, stores. He has over 24 years of experience with the Company in the areas of operations, merchandising and local store operations and served as senior vice president, operations since 2003. Mr. Burdette will be responsible for all aspects of store operations. The Company's five regional managers and Thomas P. Curran, senior vice president marketing will report to Mr. Burdette.

J. Edward Clary was named chief information officer and senior vice president, distribution. He has over 17 years of experience with the Company and was appointed chief information officer in 2000. Mr. Clary was instrumental in the development and execution of Havertys' proprietary distribution systems and its integration with all of the Company's operating systems. These systems are the foundation of the Company's recently launched transactional website. Mr. Clary will build upon his leadership and operations knowledge and will take on an expanded role to include responsibility for the Company's distribution functions.

Scott T. Miles was promoted to vice president, stores. He has held a variety of positions in store operations since joining the Company in 2002, serving as the market area manager for the Company's expansion into Cincinnati, Ohio and as operations manager of the Metro-D.C. market area. He was appointed assistant vice president, stores in 2006. Mr. Miles will continue his work with the Company's market area managers and now has the added responsibility of having the Company's supply chain team report to him.
