Harmonic Multiplies the Power of TV at IBC 2005
At the show, Harmonic will demonstrate new multi-codec andmulti-channel DiviCom(R) encoders that provide superiorpicture-quality at each supported resolution while maximizingcompression efficiencies to deliver more content within the availablebandwidth. These advanced systems make it possible for operators todeliver high definition (HD) and standard definition (SD) videoservices across different networks -- including satellite, HFC,fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP), broadband IP and wireless -- to agrowing array of devices, enriching the value for existing customersand generating new revenue from emerging market opportunities.
Harmonic's multi-service solutions -- which enable video to besimultaneously delivered to multiple devices, including the TV, PC andmobile phones -- will be featured in the IBC 2005 Mobile Zone, booth#M310, located in the Diamond Lounge of the RAI Exhibition Center. Asimilar demonstration will also be available in Harmonic's main booth.
"Harmonic is literally multiplying the power of TV, providing thesolutions and heavy lifting capabilities needed by operators in orderto introduce pace-setting new services. For emerging applications,Harmonic is introducing best-in-class multi-channel andmulti-resolution advanced codec compression systems," said PatrickHarshman, President of the Convergent Systems Division of HarmonicInc. "For existing applications, we are showing how operators benefitfrom the most versatile and highest performing MPEG-2 compressionsolutions that, when required, can be easily migrated to an advancedcodec. And, because the compression system is only part of thesolution, we are demonstrating interoperability with other elements ofthe end-to-end environment including leading set-top boxes."
At IBC 2005, Harmonic will also demonstrate the recentlyintroduced DiviTrackIP(TM) distributed statistical multiplexingsolution. DiviTrackIP uses a cost-effective IP-based network toconnect the encoders with the multiplexer, giving operators anunprecedented level of flexibility in the aggregation, compression anddistribution of broadcast programming. This groundbreaking statisticalmultiplexing solution, which exemplifies Harmonic's forward-thinking,will be presented in conjunction with MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) based DiviComMV 100 variable bit-rate encoders, the industry's most widely deployedadvanced codec-ready real time compression platform, and the DiviComElectra(TM) 1000 multi-channel MPEG-2 encoder.
Other featured Harmonic solutions include:
-- Very low bit-rate, high-quality SD and HD storage encoding for digital program insertion (DPI) and on-demand services
-- Versatile DPI solutions that dynamically regionalize and customize broadcast content
-- Scalable edge solutions for all-digital broadcast services and VOD
-- High capacity, standards-based, real-time encryption for broadcast and on-demand services
-- New ProView(TM) receivers, descramblers and decoders including systems designed specifically for digital turnaround and monitoring applications
-- Commercial services, network segmentation for scaling last mile capacity, fiber-deep transport and FTTP RF video overlay solutions
-- A flexible digital mosaic solution for creating and manipulating multi-picture services
-- A comprehensive network operations center (NOC) based on Harmonic's innovative NMX Digital Service Manager(TM)
As a recognized leader in broadband transport architectures, videocompression and statistical multiplexing, Harmonic was selected toparticipate in advanced technology sessions at the IBC Conference.
