Ford Recalls 0.85 Mln. Vehicles To Fix Airbag Deployment Fault
(RTTNews) - Ford Motor Co. (F) Friday issued a safety recall for about 850,000 cars and SUVS to fix a fault that could prevent air bags from deploying during a crash.
The recalled models include the 2013-2014 model year C-MAX, Fusion, Escape and Lincoln MKZ vehicles in the North America.
Ford said the restraints control module may experience a short circuit in the affected vehicles. The short circuit may result in the deployable restraint systems, including airbags, pretensioners and side curtains, not functioning properly during a crash. The short circuit may also affect the function of other systems, including stability control.
Ford said it is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this condition. Dealers will replace the restraints control module at no cost to the customer.
Ford said the recall includes about 745,000 vehicles in the United States, around 82,000 in Canada and about 20,000 in Mexico.
This year has been a record for the auto industry for the maximum number of recalls-- about 45 million vehicles.
F is currently trading at $16.30, up $0.10 or 0.62%, on the NYSE
